The Funboys - A Year in Review

Another year ends and with that we close out our first full year on the blog. As the blog administrator I will be delivering an annual recount of how the blog held up and where we have potential to improve.

As of this month we have 13 contributors. I just noticed Danny Boy got all signed up so hopefully we'll get a few posts out of him in 2010. I predict big things from him.

We've had 103 posts this year as well and numerous comments to boot. Pretty solid showing.

The breakdown went like this:

Ryan: 30
Kevin: 22
Camacho: 16
Mety: 12
D Sess: 7
Cody: 5
Cervenka: 4
Chris Todd: 3
Gregalo: 1
A Town: 1

Also I'd like to introduce The 2009 Funboy Awards or The Funbys:

Worst Houseguest: Danny Boy. He'll sleep from 6 am - 4 pm. I've actually been to work a time or two during that span of hours. This dude has no Sunday schedule.

Runner Up: Alex. That guy takes crazy shits.

(Sidenote: Oddly enough these are the only two funboys to chag in the last two months at my place) -- video available for dan's moment with the porcelain upon request..

Best Partier: Danny Boy. This guy "has to have an afterparty". Last call is the first call to Dan. Cheers to the man who gets it done and leaves it all out there. Dressed as Robert E. Lee at 4:30 a.m. on Halloween night, Dan did his best reenactment of Custer's last stand at the Exxon on Bitters and Jones Maltsberger, took a $45 dollar cab ride to seal a deal, and bargained a ride off his unsuspecting suitor - thus cementing his role in The Funboys as the best partier.

Best Post Titles: Chris Todd. Toddley comes up with the best post titles hands down. Notables include: "Wheats this all about" and "Hail to the Ch-Ch-Ch-Chief". While most of us don't even think of a clever heading, Todd adds a little polish to each post.

Best Lip Gloss Utilizer: This was a tough one. It could have gone to any one of us, but in the end there was just one funboy who could bring this one home: You guessed it, Danny Boy. When nothing else would do Dan applied lip gloss the only way he knows how. In her pooper.

Best Halloween Costume: Danny Camach as Macho Man Randy Savage. I don't know where you found that muscle suit or those arm-streamers, but that was some of your best work.

Crew Member Most Likely to Get You Out of a Bind: Danny Boy. Should a police officer find you chagging your brains out on the side of a downtown city street look to none other than Danny Boy to alert the police officer that "it's cool, he had cabbage for dinner".

Crew Member Most Likely to Get You Into a Bind: Danny Boy. There's no telling where a night out with Chauncey will take you.

Best Holdout for a Crew Member: Cervenka. You were strong my man. Very strong. Congrats for taking the plunge though!

Best Spontaneous Excursion Resulting in an Injury: Chris Atherton, TCU-TX State Weekend, broken ankle, razor scooter.

Crew Member in the Most Awkward Situations: Danny Boy. Anyone else have a conversation with their sexual partner's dad while naked? Didn't think so.

Most Likely to Bring Someone Out Who Will Unbutton Their Shirt at a Restaurant or Do Pull Ups at a Bar: Danny Boy.

Most Likely to be Spotted at Oasis (non-crew): Brett Gaines

Most Likely to be Spotted at Oasis (crew-related): Mr. D

Crew Member Most Likely to Let Loose When Their Significant Other is Not There: Tie: Todd and K Dal

Crew Member Most Likely to Turn in Early: Mety Boy. Give this man a coffee and Bailey's, an oh baby, and a bud light with lime and watch the magic happen!

The Comeback Kid: Dallas F%*&ing Sessions. Damn it's good to have this man back in the swing of things. He's been reemerging over the years, but Dallas really made a huge comeback this season. Hope to chill that much more in 2010 with ya D Sesh!

Crew Member Who Pulled off a Bald Head, Bandana, and Cutoff Shirt the Best: Gotta be the C Man.

Crew Member Most Likely to Clear the Room: Todd

Crew Member Most Likely to Make a Lot of Noise During Sex: Mr. Luke EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Evans

Best Back to Back SA Travelling Crew Member: Gregalo made the trip for Atherton's wedding and was right back down here for Thanksgiving. Good man.

Crew Member Most Likely to Make it Out 50% Percent of the Time: B Dub. With a going out percentage of 49.78%, Weiss takes the cake on this one.

So all that said I present Danny Boy as your 2009 Crew Member of the Year. It's hard to argue against the numbers here. Dan took home 7 Funbys this year in a variety of categories. Pay him tribute the next time you see him.

Want to work off those Holidays pounds

Crew Athletics

So last year was the First Annual Crew Thanksgiving Golf outting. Are we up for doing something similar this year?

Do y'all still want to golf? We could do a football game, ultimate frisbee, basketball, maybe a bracketed doubles tennis tournament? Maybe we combine 2 or 3 sports and do an all day event. Maybe even a little Quidditch...

Just wanted to get y'alls thoughts so we can start coordinating this if we need to get tee times, schedule tennis courts, find a field...

Also would Friday be the best day? Is anyone not going to be around next weekend?

Let's get something going because last year was an absolute blast. All about being hungover from Thanksgiving night Oasis and getting up way too early to run around with veteran crew members.

A-Town M-Hill Pre Party

Hello funboys, anyone got any plans for Saturday before another one bites the dust(the marriage of the beast)...well my buddy and maybe yours too, bret hamilton, well he lives about 2-3 miles, no more than ten mins from the wedding...so with the wedding being at 5, we are thinking bout headin to brets at around 230-300, and leave by bout 430 no later then 440....it is BYOB and B....take your shoes off, and don't bring everyone and their mother, if you are reading this, come on, and others are welcomed too, we just got to not get to rowdy, which i'm hoping since it is only 3:00pm on sat, dan or joel want be getting to out of hand...M-Hill was a lil concern that we would come drunk to the wedding, I think all of us will be ok, and not have to worry about that till about 930 when we start sliding....whats the plan for afterwords...lindsey (bret's girl friend) will be making 7-layer dip....let me know if you plan on going so i can get a heads up....if not able to make it, see you at spring hill....TCU game can be on

I hope that you all had as much fun as I did, first time I've had fun losing money in a casino! Probaly can't say the same for everyone, but I hope no-one dashed their financial goals this weekend. To those who didn't go, you were there in spirit and I'm sure will hear about it. Love you all, thank you all more than words can say,

Oct 31, Boo....ATXing...dip dip

You know the drill, you know the place, costume contest winners gets $100 bucks, we will do the hotel thing again, but plan on joel breaking wind, will the C-man and steph take the reins again, will they even go...who knows,

A Town Goin Down, by getting married that is

Hello Fellows, well the time is getting near, Oct 23&24 to be exact, when we will be heading to Chris's bacherlor party....lake charles to la verge to find some "mana" (you might of heard the commericals).....so room arrangements, well this is my idea, 4 to a room, we get 2-3 between just the crew that is going, this way it will knock the price in half, and we can have a go to bed earlier room as well as a go to bed later room, for danny bou and everyone else who will be up...so far I know, luke is in, kevin is in, dan is in, ryan is in and mety is in, we got 3 spaces left, then need another room.....
Hit me up when you can

Trick or Treat!?!?

Gents, just thought I'd see if there were any Halloween plans in the works. . . I feel like its that special time of year when the weather turns cold, everybody wants to have fun and women have a built in excuse to wear ultra naughty costumes simply because they can. . . and I generally support that type of thing.
Lets see if we can figure something out and make it happen!

Dan The Man

I applogize for the length of this post in advance, but this story -- even if not a good one -- has to be told.
So last night Dan came up to Dallas to visit. I brought out a couple of my buddies from up here and they in turn brought their wives/girlfriends. We had some dinner and then proceeded to Uptown Pub, for those of you familiar with the area. Following a couple beers and rounds of shots (including car bombs), we close down the bar and immediately head to Roccos for late night pizza. My buddy Jacob runs over to his place and brings back some beers (its BYOB). We eat, talk to some ladies and things are all good -- Dan and I are pretty loaded, but tactical nonetheless.

Beers in hand, Dan and I say goodbye and began the short walk home (less than 1/8 of a mile). Meanwhile, Jacob hops in his GF Megan's BMW and -- unbeknowst to Dan and I -- starts heading our way from behind. We hear the car approach (he's probably doing at least 50 MPH in the middle of Uptown) but dont realize its them. As he passes, they roll down the window and start shouting -- almost hitting Dan and I.

On instinct, Dan hurls his beer bottle on the side of the BMW, barely missing the window but nonetheless totally blasting the entire side door panel.

Long story short, Dan now owes $500 to fix the door. Never a dull moment with the Chiefy.

Pickle Dick

Has anyone seen or heard from this guy since ryan's lakehouse trip?

feel free to make suggestions on where you think he can be

I, for one, thinks he's sitting in his truck with the AC roarin, spitting in a cup, and listening to some D and B.

Speaker Box

I ended up blowing my speakers last weekend. . . but apparently my battery is doing just fine. I now have the joy of replacing them, but have absolutely no idea what to put in. Pretty sure I can fit 6.5" speakers and would probably want the 3-way. Any thoughts or suggestions?!?!

Aggie Ring "Re"Dunk

We told this Funboy if A&M beats Memphis in the 2007 Sweet 16 that he would have to dunk his ring again. A&M unfortunately lost, but the Aggie still dunked his ring.

Wheats this all about?

Anheuser-Busch has announced that it will release a new version of it's famous Bud Light beer - Bud Light Golden Wheat. Look for it in your grocery store cooler Oct. 5th. Wheat beers are typically enjoyed in the summer months, it's odd that Anheuser-Busch is releasing so late in the year but on the other hand Bud Light Golden Wheat will be available just in time for Oktoberfest. I plan on giving it a shot.

Any Suggestions for the Crewgate?

As for Ryan's TCU/Texas State Checklist:

TCU
1.) Have TCU rain tarp cleaned and pressed via Froggy Laundry.
2.) Remind the TCU haters that we do have 2 National Championships - 1935 & 1938 bitch!
TX State
1.) Remember that you have a football team
2.) Wear throwback Southwest Texas shirt and try to remember which school name you graduated from, or if you graduated at all.

TCU vs TX State Checklist

TCU:

1. Have TCU rain tarp cleaned and pressed via Froggy Laundry.
2…

TX State:

1. Remember that you have a football team.
2…

I got it started. Feel free to finish it up!

"His spot. His shot." - Bill Schoening

Bruce with an earring? No way.

Although he didn't make the cut it's a testament to his great defense and conditioning that at his age he was considered for the olympic squad.

Even though he'll don the purple and gold I still love Ron Artest

Last night Ron Ron posted his cell phone number on his twitter page. He's taking calls and, as of this morning, was still responding to texts.

His Houston cell phone number is: 832-260-8192

Let the funboys.blogspot.com know if you hit him up. A spurs related text would be choice.

Coming soon to a Lake house near you!

Just in case wine in a box isn't doin it for ya, we can now suck our lakehouse beer out of a box/mini keg (newcastle!!!). While they're currently testing boxes in a few cities it should expand nationwide by this football season. As Mac says "the future is now"

And for those of us too lazy to do the math (all), 1.5 gallons is equal to 16 bottles. At $20 a box, you'll be paying $1.25 per beer, which is more expensive than buying a 12-pack of bottles. As we're all susceptible to gimmicks (miller chill, bud light lime, clamato, cheladas, etc etc etc) I think we need to give this a shot

cheers!

"But sub out the Fungirl photo and put my Funboy photo (with long hair), and you have my new DL."

Proud to be a Texan?

I was (and still am), but I questioned my loyalty when my new Driver's License came in the mail and looked like this! (Sorry Im not posting my real one because of fear of identity theft)

But sub out the Fungirl photo and put my Funboy photo (with long hair), and you have my new DL. This isnt Fucking Delaware! THIS IS TEXAS! What what the hell is that skyline in the back ground? Does that even exist in ANY city?

PUKE!

Newest Spur: Theo Ratliff

36 year old Theo Ratliff has been signed to the Spurs per news4's Don Harris. While this isn't the most flashy signing, he's another 6'10" veteran that we can throw out at Gasol and Bynum, further strengthening our front court, which saw itself dwindling after the trade of Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto.

Over his career he's averaged 2.5 blocks per game. Even last season in only 12 minutes of play he still managed to average a block per game. He won't see big minutes, but for the 10-15 minutes we throw him out there it's good to know he's going to be swatting shots, smoking fools, and lighting up chumps.

He came cheap. Low risk, moderate reward. I'll take him knowing that we already have Duncan, McDyess, Blair, Haislip(?), Mahinmi(?), and Bonertime likely to be played ahead of him.

spurs rookie camp tweets

Below are tweets from David Thorpes' (espn writer) viewing of spurs v hornets during the Rookie camps. Start at the bottom and scroll up

  • david b. thorpe Mahinmi is a talent. But he still does not get much done. 6 and 4 with 6 fls in 22 mins. Remember-mental is to physical as 4 is to 1. Knight
  • david b. thorpe Collison is really nice. I see why Holiday played the 2.
  • david b. thorpe Manu and Tony are going to make Blair's Christmas very special. He's going to be crushing guys on ballscreens and pin downs.
  • david b. thorpe Blair with the double-double in 17 mins.
  • david b. thorpe Collison can run a team. As Ben Howland knows.
  • david b. thorpe Julian Wright has horrible shot selection. At this point in his career, that's disappointing.
  • david b. thorpe McClinton just not a pg. Struggles as a playmaker.
  • david b. thorpe Blair can not afford to hunt shots after being well defended inside.
  • david b. thorpe Jack McClinton getting outplayed by Thornton.
  • david b. thorpe Thortnon filling it up. Shoots a lot but he can shoot. He'll be a nice Eddie House option off the bench.
  • david b. thorpe Malik Hairston playing well this half. 7 pts.
  • david b. thorpe Beaubois has been the best pure pg I've seen this summer. Until George Hill. Westbrook is the most explosive game changer.
  • david b. thorpe Marcus Thornton is playing well, defending and playmaking.
  • david b. thorpe Julian Wright has great activity. With confidence I don't see how he couldn't be in the rotation.
  • david b. thorpe George Hill was the 2nd worst player of all the first rounders last summer. He's fantastic now. Credit him, and his organization.
  • david b. thorpe But not surprising.
  • david b. thorpe Both teams have been practicing their team d. Impressive.
  • david b. thorpe He directed them to the right spots and then split the ballscreen.
  • david b. thorpe George Hill just had a monster dunk, but it was the least impressive play of the sequence. He set up the entire set by talking to his guys.
  • david b. thorpe DeJuan Blair. 1 minute. 3 boards.
  • david b. thorpe Hill is a tough matchup for Collison. Almost as quick, but way longer and very crafty.
  • david b. thorpe And then almost did it again, with a backtip steal and a missed layup that was dunked home. He has a nice and compact game.
  • david b. thorpe Thornton made 2 plays! Block and finish.
  • david b. thorpe Mahinmi is someone I've always been intrigued with. His lack of leg strength has always been a major issue. Just can't stay balanced.
  • david b. thorpe Thornton vs. McClinton is a good matchup too.
  • david b. thorpe Collison does a nice job attacking the ballscreen. Pressures the show guy.
  • david b. thorpe Collison vs. Hill is a good matchup. George can defend.
  • david b. thorpe Spurs Hornets.

Our New Big Man

About 37 seconds into the video is where it gets real:

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Free Agency

What big man do y'all want starting next to Duncan this season?

Rumors have been flying around like crazy this week and you never know which way the covert front office is going to swing until it's already done.

Here's a list of available bigs:

1. Rasheed Wallace
2. Antonio McDyess
3. Chris Anderson
4. Marcin Gortat
5. Anderson Varejao
6. Marcus Camby
7. Drew Gooden
8. Zaza Pachulia
9. Brandon Bass
10. Leon Powe
11. Fabricio Oberto

I'm a Sheed man myself, but I'd say we'd be set to have any of these guys (maybe less so Oberto) and then to have Blair, Bonner, Mahinmi backing up Timmy and whoever we get.

Satsuma Harvest Wit

Real Louisiana Satsumas, golden wheat, oats and the finest barley create Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit. Pale and cloudy, like the haze on a hot summer day, this white beer has a sweet and subtle citrus flavor with a touch of spice that is cool and refreshing.

Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit is very versatile and can compliment a number of dishes. This brew pairs well with salads, fish, shrimp and lobster, as long as the dishes are not too spicy. Thai dishes, which often have citric notes in their flavor profile, would also perfectly compliment the orange flavors in Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit.

Give this one a whirl funboys...should help cool you off in this scorching summer heat!!
