Drew Gooden Commits to Signing with the Spurs!

Spurs fans your prayers have been answered. The Spurs went out and got their much needed front court depth and at quite a bargain. In 31 games for the Chicago Bulls this season Drew Gooden averaged 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds. While his overall defensive game may leave something to be desired for most Spurs fans, Gooden brings consistent scoring in the post and solid rebounding.

He's currently healing from a groin injury that as of yesterday was said not to require surgery. I'm trusting that the Spurs front office knows he'll be ready to play by the post season, hopefully earlier.

Low risk, high reward on this one. When Kurt Thomas, who has been playing very well, and Fabricio, also improving, are off, a little Drew Gooden action will go down quite nicely.

DRIVE FOR FIVE!!

I think this is a pretty solid grab. New set of Twin Towers in SA!

He referred to his soul patch on the back of his head as "Sheed", stating he ripped a chunk of hair of Rasheed Wallace's scalp. Funny dude. FYI, he is half Finnish.

Apparently the Lakers did not want this to happen...

“I got calls from (the Lakers) trying to get me,” said Gooden, the 6-foot-10 power forward who officially became a Spur when he signed a contract for a pro-rated portion of the $1.5 million that remained of the Spurs’ mid-level salary cap exception.

“It was a game of chess probably. (The Lakers) probably knew San Antonio was the team they had to get past in the West.”
