This picture now comes up now when Alex calls me.

And finally the for the 3rd time.... THE CHAPSTICK PICTURE! I meant to grab the first two pictures off of my bulletin board in San Antonio but forgot... so I guess the comparison will have to wait until another time. I think this is a great reinactment though (much better than #2), great photography Alex.

Now let's break this picture down just like we did 10 years ago... what exactly is going on here?

I think Dallas is trippin on X and weary of the Vicks vapor-rub Ryan (his no-bullshit, no-nonsense drug dealer) is coaxing him to sniff to "vamp-up" his high. Ryan is none to pleased by his wavering.

Joel, on the other hand, is bewildered at the mere thought of sticking a tube of anything into one's nasal cavity. "my mama used to put that on my chest. Times aint what they used ta be". Joel, always ready for anything, has his shirt open just in case.

And Kevin. well, he's just there making sure everyone is in happy attendance, loving sports as a whole, and appreciating his hippy head of hair.

AWESOME POST K DAL!!!

My opinion is exempt because it would reveal my mental impression of the transaction at hand; thus, it would ruin any future speculation and the true value of this photograph and its habitual duplication. Whereas its always been a mystery up to this point. . . was Ryan just trying to make sure my Acutane parched lips didnt get too dry and I was worried it would cramp my Salamandar Style?!?!? We may never know. . . but the truth is out there somewhere -- keep guessing Funboys!!!

Ryan, I have been anxiously awaiting your breakdown on this picture.

Dallas, I loved your comment. This quote "was Ryan just trying to make sure my Acutane parched lips didnt get too dry and I was worried it would cramp my Salamandar Style?!?!?" needs to be headlined somewhere on the blog under "Classic Funboy Quotes".

this pic does a helluva justice to the original. everyone's expressions are what make it.

thinking back on the original...

it's almost like kevin and i were pushing the chap stick on dallas and neither of us was gonna get the job done on our own, but we both knew what had to be done and that the reward would be so sweet.

also i may be wrong here, but does the original picture feature any drugs or alcohol? as i remember we weren't casually drinking during this exchange. the beers were set aside and the bowls were cashed. this was about one thing - lubricating dallas's lips despite an unrelenting disdain for the cherry flavored balm.

also, i can't believe i would let someone else use my chap stick. even you dallas in your sexy salamander prime.

the whole thing just continues to blow my mind 10 years later.

Finally.., thank you Ryan.

Yes, I clearly recall that in the photo I am holding a 16 ounce Budweiser and my head is shaved. So, beer was present (and I wouldnt bet against Joel Goff drinking a beer in the background either).

The orginal was taken in the street in front of my parents house during our Senior year, and judging by my shaved head it must have been during football season in the Fall. Not sure why or how we were getting away with such behavior, my only guess is that my parents were out of town and we decided to have a small street party gathering. Or maybe they were in bed and we were taking chances, who knows.

The best part about the original is that there was absolutely no staging involved. Someone grabbed my camera and took a photo. I will have to go through the archive to figure out who the 5 member of the group was this night that snapped the shot, but if I were to guess it would be either Mety or Colin Park. Not sure why I say Colin, maybe because we was sober enough to realize what was happening. Whoever took the original photo though was someone who saw an instant classic and was quick to react.

If only a picture truly spoke a thousand words....
